I can't think of any more impressive feats than riding and killing it in the Tour de France. Riding your bike 124km and 11,000 feet of climbing in JUST ONE DAY in the Pyrenees is just mind boggling. And they do it all in less than 4 hours.
The last 6.3km are at a steady 8% gradient. That's basically riding up the Mt. Washington Auto Road. If you aren't sure what that would be like, take a couple minutes and check out this video:
Yes. That steep. On your bike. When you've already ridden almost 120km. It's almost inhuman. And then you think of the history of doping in cycling and you almost get why they would do it. The Tour covers 3,664 km. If you're not able to convert that let me help - that's 2276 miles. That's basically riding from the top of Maine to Florida.
What these men do is spectacular. You're shortchanging yourself if you don't at least take some time and check it out. The mountains of the Alps and Pyrenees are behind them now but there is still plenty of amazing riding and awesome stuff to see. Don't miss out, it's incredible.
