My buddy Mark emailed me with his predictions on the upcoming baseball season. Mark will be writing for Beantown Sports Guys, but I figured I would go ahead and post his prediction before the season takes off:
The Following are my predictions for how the baseball season standings will end. What do you think?
AL-East
1) Bos 2) Tor 3) NYY 4) TB 5) Bal
AL-Central
1) Det 2) Cle* 3) Chi 4) Min 5) KC
AL-West
1) Sea 2) LAA 3) Tex 4) Oak
*- Wildcard Team
NL-East
1) Nym 2) Phi* 3) Atl 4) Was 5) Fla
NL-Central
1) StL 2) Chi 3) Mil 4) Cin 5) Hou 6) Pit
NL-West
1) LAD 2) Ari 3) Col 4) SD 5) SF
*- Wildcard Team
I agree with the American League Division winners, and I think the Angels and Indians will battle it out for the Wildcard. The Yankees could sneak in, but I just don't think they have the pitching, and I am not sold on Joe Girardi to handle the New York spotlight right now. A pitching rotation of Pettitte (can he handle the pressure after turning on Clemens? Avoid injuries), Wang, Mussina (aging and ailing), Chamberlain (reports of him already breaking down?), and who else? The Yankees made no big splashes in free agency and I just don't think they can make it with this pitching staff, especially if one of them goes down for a period of time.
As far as the National League, I see the Mets taking the East, the Cardinals taking the Central and the Dodgers taking the West just like Mark does, but I see Colorado or Arizona taking the wildcard. The NL is wide open, as usual, and I think it won't be decided until mid-September.
