Just one day after the Green Bay Packers were told by 16 year veteran Quarterback Brett Favre that he will be returning, they added probably the most talented free agent left on the skimpy market: Charles Woodson.
The agreement is a seven-year deal that can be worth as much as $52 million. Woodson will make $10.5 million in the first year of the deal and $18 million over the first three years. Woodson will also receive a $3 million bonus if he is selected to the Pro Bowl in two of the first three years of the contract.
If Woodson can stay healthy, this will be a fantastic move for the Packers. Woodson is a Pro Bowler that has exceptional speed and coverage skills. In the last few years, however, he's played off and on because of health reasons.
The Packers have the 5th overall selection in the NFL Draft this weekend and many believe they will select Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk. If they do, they'll have two starters on defense that can make an instant impact and give the Cheeseheads something to cheer about and Favre one last chance at glory as he looks to ride into the sunset and finish his career on a high note.
