It's been far too long updating, but updates should come regularly now, as I've been busy with moving the last couple months.
During all that time, the Yankees have lost countless players to injury. They've been as far back as 5 1/2 games, and now are a mere 1/2 game back. During the Sox 12 game win streak, the Yankees hung tough and won 8 in the same span, including 2 more at the end of that span.
They have done it with terrible pitching from their 3rd, 4th, and 5th starters, living and dying by Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina's arms.
They've hung in there with above average defense, and timely offense and hitting.
They haven't given any games away, and have stolen quite a few away from other teams.
They have been playing over their heads, but will they have that 5 game losing streak we've been waiting for? Or is the chemistry on the team right now too great to even let that happen?
The Red Sox are gearing up for an easy second half, as they kick off a 3 game series against the Kansas City Royals tonight, playing the majority of their games in the friendly confines of Fenway, and controlling their own destiny by playing the Yankees 9 more times (one five game series, one four game series, both with doubleheaders).
As much as I hate the Yankees, I've got to hand it to them that they've hung tough, and if we sleep on them they will creep up past us and leave us in the dust, possibly out of the playoffs. It's about time the Sox went for the jugular and displayed the killer instinct.
And this is just the series to start.
