It isn’t surprising that there are still some major free
agents out on the market, and the longer teams wait to sign big name free
agents, depending where people sign and for how much, their value can drop,
thus giving teams great players at a mere pittance.
I would be elated if the Patriots would be able to work an
incentive laden deal to sign LaVar Arrington. He’s been injured a great deal of
his career, and so that could easily work in their favor at the bargaining
table; however, forever, Arrington has been known as someone that perceives his
value incredibly high and was one of the only players in the league that
wouldn’t license his name to the NFLPA to be used in things like fantasy sports
and video games (this has changed recently). I am not sure if he would do the
same here, if I had to guess, I would say no, only because there are plenty of
teams out there that would pay too much for him just because he has such a high
ceiling as far as talent goes. He’ll probably continue his NFC East merry go
around and land in either Philly or Dallas.
In the end, it will come down to whether LaVar wants
to make top dollar and never have a real shot at winning, or sacrifice some of
his potential bank account and play for a team that could win any given year.
