It's being reported that seven-time Pro Bowl inside linebacker Zach Thomas has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Dallas Cowboys. Many are saying that Thomas is choosing to play for the Cowboys over the Patriots or Saints because it is a sort of homecoming for Thomas, who played collegiately at Texas Tech and is a Texas native. Rumors are putting the deal at 1 year for $3 million.
Being a Patriots fan this is a disappointment, especially with the playing status of Tedy Bruschi in question, as his agent said he will make a decision soon as far as retiring.
The Patriots will likely turn to free agency rather than the draft to address their needs at linebacker, but Belichick and Pioli have surprised me in the past. Notable free agent LBs out there are Lance Briggs, Na'il Diggs, and underrated guys like Boss Bailey and Teddy Lehman, who both could be premier linebackers if they have the right coaching.
