Result are pouring in for the NFL Combine, and although there are a number of impressive stats here and there, generally I would put this Combine class behind last year and maybe even the 2006 Combine's class.
That said, much like stud Running Back Adrian Peterson, Arkansas RB Darren McFadden blew the doors off the RCA Dome by posting an extremely impressive 40 yard dash time (4.33) and vertical jump (almost 39"), but some still question his character, as he's gotten into a few bar fights over the years. With teams at the front seeing what Peterson has done for the Vikings, I hardly think that any of the teams in the top 5 would consider his character that big of an issue, especially when you compare it to the real life "perception" of Adrian Peterson's durability coming out of Oklahoma.
What used to be the consensus no-brainer # 1 overall pick in LSU's DT Glenn Dorsey, a lot of people are shying away from that, saying he may even drop past 5, or even to 9, as he has potential health concerns with a stress fracture in his tibia. He keeps saying he hasn't missed a single college game, however the NFL season is a lot longer and a lot harder than college. Time will tell.
Virginia Tech's Eddie Royal increased his stock by running a 4.39 40 yard dash and pumping out a very impressive 24 reps of 225 on the bench. Will being from Virginia Tech hurt Royal's stock? Think about this: Michael Vick. DeAngelo Hall. PacMan Jones. All speedsters and amazing athletes from VaTech. All guys that are constantly in trouble either with the league or the law, or both. Hopefully Royal won't turn out like them.
Overall it was an impressive day at the Combine. My favorite day is tomorrow: Linebackers and Defensive Lineman will be working out. Expect more updates tomorrow.
