Everyone thought the Celtics would be too tired to be ready for the Detroit Pistons for the first game in the Eastern Conference Finals. Everyone thought the Pistons would be well rested and would bust out of the gates and run roughshod against them.
Everyone thought wrong.
I think going to Game 7 in both series the Celtics learned a lot about themselves. They've learned to trust one another, learned not to every count themselves out, and when they have a shot to go for the throat to take it because they might not get another chance at it.
A few things I know:
- Ray Allen will come along. And if he doesn't, he is still drawing double teams. Right now its just a mental game he is playing with himself right now. He'll snap out of it.
- Chauncey Billups will need to be healthy if the Pistons want to push this series against the C's. 100% healthy.
- I felt a bit naked without Ben Wallace being in a Detroit uniform. It feels like he should be.
- The Pistons will not get a consistent effort from McDyess as they did last night (14 points, 11 rebounds).
- Rasheed Wallace better do more than just 5 rebounds and get 11 points, or the Celtics will eat them alive off the boards.
- Pierce seems a lot more comfortable after Game 7.
- Eddie House is doing now what all the fans knew he could do: create. If Rivers saw this sooner perhaps we wouldn't have had to go to two Game 7s already.
This will be a battle. I'd be shocked if the Celtics swept the series, and shocked if it didn't go at least 6 games.
