A.J. Burnett gave up zero runs over 7 2/3 innings, throwing 112 pitches on the night, while the rest of the Blue Jays gave him a scant 3 runs in the way of run support. It was 3 more runs than the Sox were able to eek out for Tim Wakefield.
Wakefield went seven innings, allowed three runs on six hits. He walked four and struckout none.
Sox Hero of the Game: Tim Wakefield. This series has been dominated by great pitching and close wins, and Wake just didn't get the run support he needed.
Unsung Hero: David Ortiz – teams love putting the shift on him and he was able to get two hits with it on, so he's learning to go the other way and place the ball where guys aren't.
Props go to: A.J. Burnett. This is the way he expects to pitch every game. Since the trade from Florida, Burnett has been a regular on the DL, and he is hoping to snap out of that.
Lingering Question: Is Lowell's return throwing off the rhythm the Sox had when they were rotating between Casey at first and Youk?
No longer a push over team, the Sox look to bounce back and get those offense numbers up tonight when the Rays come to town.
